Suvremena istarska umjetnost
Dragana Sapanjoš’s multimedia performances are essentially a form of Gesamtkunstwerk: through multimedia technology, the artist gives equal prominence to choral singing, children’s games, tableaux vivants, theatrical scenes, conducting, and the tasting of food and drink… In these multilayered performances, Dragana takes on the roles of performer, director, scriptwriter, set designer, music editor, choreographer and costume designer, often involving the audience as active participants.
In Oh My God, I Forgot About Alice!, the artist draws on Lewis Carroll’s iconic literary work to conjure up fairy-tale scenes of a magical world in which time has stopped. In her own distinctive way, through abundant irony, sarcasm and exaggerated kitsch, Dragana exposes the illusion of contemporary glamour. Using the language of the fantastical, as Carroll does in his book, she plays with the pervasive tabloid culture of our time. By presenting an illusion of abundance, she accentuates the loneliness and alienation of contemporary life.
