Work, sleep, grow old, shit, repeat!

YOU CAN FIND ME IF YOU WANT ME IN THE GARDEN

corridor, staircase, slide, heart-rate monitor, digital display, light300 × 70 × 1200 cm (h × w × d)

From the outside the work appears as a long curved wall. A small digital display is embedded in the surface, showing numbers that change whenever someone is inside the installation.

Inside, the structure reveals itself as a narrow corridor containing a long staircase of approximately ten meters. The steps are deliberately low and physically demanding, forcing the visitor to climb slowly. Before entering, each participant places a heart-rate monitor on the earlobe, which transmits the heartbeat to the display visible outside.

As the person climbs, the numbers gradually change: from a normal resting rhythm to the accelerated pulse produced by physical fatigue. At the top there is almost no space to stand, and returning down the staircase becomes extremely difficult. The only practical way out is to throw oneself down a slide that leads back to the exit of the corridor.

While the participant experiences the climb as physical effort and uncertainty, spectators outside see only numbers: a visible curve of heartbeats moving from calm to fatigue and finally to the sudden adrenaline spike of the descent.

The work reflects on the trajectory of a life and on the expectations of others. What is lived internally as effort, doubt and decision appears externally only as measurable data.

The title evokes both the beginning and the end of life: the garden as a place associated with childhood and play, but also as a quiet space to which one returns in old age.
