Vigna degli Artisti – un vino per l'arte, 3rd edition
The relationships between opposites – fullness and emptiness, positive and negative, silence and noise, the observed and the observer, matter and antimatter, plane and volume, real and virtual – lie at the heart of Dragana Sapanjoš’s work. This is why the work has no title, and therefore no name. Within this small, black, silent volume, the artist imagines “the silence within which an infinite space of imaginary numbers extends, also known as the Dirac sea”. It is a sea that allows us to understand that some things exist but cannot be observed directly; that the void is not truly empty, but rather a lack, an absence that allows us to perceive things. This is why, in certain Eastern cultures, in physics and in virtual reality, the void is more real and more substantial than fullness. “However,” the artist adds, “every object of observation has a multiple nature.” Every work of art therefore has a complex nature, arising precisely from the interplay of opposites that constitutes reality, to which art gives a complex form with infinite meanings.
