Aging is rude?
RIOT
- MMSU – Muzej moderne i suvremene umjetnosti, Rijeka (Mali salon)
situational work
RIOT (tiha pobuna) is conceived as a hotel of temporary passage, a spatial metaphor for the stages of human life.
Visitors enter through a reception where a masked receptionist welcomes them into the space, marking the beginning of the journey. The museum becomes a temporary architecture of transition.
In the “hotel lounge” the performance unfolds. Adolescent majorettes move in extreme slow motion, performing a three-minute choreography stretched across the duration of an hour. They hold pom-poms made of human hair and smile continuously without producing a sound.
Between the lounge and the rooms, transparent but locked glass doors reveal the corridor of life ahead. Along this passage an inscription in blown glass reads aging is rude: a reflection on a society that has progressively lost its relationship with aging and experience.
The corridor leads to the final space: the hotel room. At its center stands a large bed resembling a tombstone. The sheets are covered in wax, preserving the traces of the body like a fragile archive of presence. Around it remain the anonymous objects of a temporary stay: a lamp, an ashtray, a nightstand, a generic hotel painting.
