Too ephemeral, too cerebral, too conceptual, complicated. Change!
1/2 OF FRAME
- MSUI – Muzej suvremene umjetnosti Istre, Pula
collage series, 12 collages, 70 × 100 cm each, tissue paper, paper, patafix
Half of Frame originates from the song No Surprises by Radiohead and from a specific image of its music video, where Thom Yorke's head is enclosed inside a glass helmet that slowly fills with water.
In the collages, the face of the singer is deliberately removed. The image is reduced to a minimal structure of shapes and planes made of paper and tissue paper. What remains is the outline of the glass sphere and the oblique reflections of the studio lights that slide across its surface.
The absence of the face is crucial. Once the work is framed under glass, the reflective surface replaces the missing image: the viewer's face appears where the singer's face once was. The suffocation staged in the original video is thus transferred to the spectator, who becomes the temporary subject of the image.
