And if there's no wind? If there's no wind, die! Die again!
TRISTAN IZOLDA
- ARTERIJA – International Festival of Visual Arts, Novigrad
site-specific installation – performance
Tristan & Isolda unfolds along the seafront landscape of Novigrad. Two large jellyfish-like structures drift across the water, towed by jet skis, their colors echoing the sails traditionally associated with the legend of Tristan and Isolde.
After crossing the sea, the structures are installed in the coastal park. Inflated forms with long trailing tentacles react to the wind, slowly breathing and moving almost imperceptibly among the pine trees. Their fragile motion transforms the landscape into a suspended theatrical space.
While the forms rest on land, the Prelude to Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, the same music Lars von Trier used in Melancholia, resonates in the background, extending the myth into the present environment. The work stages a quiet encounter between romantic tragedy, natural forces, and temporary sculptural presence.
