Goodbye, inferno!
GOODBYE INFERNO
- Viafarini studio, Milan
installation, event, environmental dimensions
Goodbye Inferno took the form of a birthday celebration staged inside the Viafarini studio in Milan, where two new works were in the process of being developed.
The studio was transformed into a temporary environment composed of unfinished structures, objects and video projections. In the first room a skeletal aluminium construction resembling a forest of metallic trunks occupied the wall, while an iron basin slowly produced rust and grease.
The larger room was organized around a long strip of reflective black nylon laid on the floor, resembling a dark river. Three plaster rifles suspended from the ceiling pointed toward a fragile plasterboard surface.
A long table occupied the center of the space, holding construction buckets filled with water in which green apples floated.
At the far end of the room a video projection showed the image of an actress strongly resembling the artist herself slowly descending from above, as if falling through the frame. In front of the projection stood a row of black director's chairs, while small white paper boats were scattered across the floor.
A second projection presented a sequence of violent and unsettling images assembled from fragments of theatre and animation.
Rather than a finished work, Goodbye Inferno functioned as a transitional landscape: a performative gathering where fragments of new works, personal mythology and cinematic imagery converged, marking a farewell to an inferno lasting several years, and the beginning of a new phase of artistic activity.
