DIS-REI refers to a cycle of disintegration and reintegration. The work originates from an analysis of the protective face guards used in rugby helmets, structures designed to absorb impact and prevent injury.
In this piece the logic of protection is reversed. The structure is recreated in blown glass, a fragile material that would shatter under pressure and potentially wound the wearer. What normally protects the body becomes a source of danger.
One of the sculptures was worn by the conductor during the performance Sinking (teen), functioning simultaneously as ornament, mask and risk device.
